
Matt Wilkins focuses his practice on bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, business and commercial litigation for large automotive suppliers, secured and unsecured creditors in complex bankruptcy proceedings, out-of-court negotiations, and acquisitions of distressed businesses. He also has significant expertise in customer-supplier disputes in the automotive industry, including the negotiation and documentation of complex workout agreements and asset sale transactions.
Prior to becoming a founding member of Brooks Wilkins Sharkey & Turco, Wilkins was a shareholder at Butzel Long in Detroit. Mr. Wilkins is licensed to practice in Michigan, Illinois and Indiana.
- Representation of Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Debtors with over $500M of unsecured obligations
- Representation of a Tier One customer of a bankrupt plastic injection molder. Successfully negotiated a multi-party agreement which allowed client to continue receiving product until tools and resources were safely released
- Represented world’s largest supplier with its distressed suppliers and their lenders to ensure continued production of parts until supplier was sold or the work resourced
- Successfully negotiated customer/supplier agreements to ensure ongoing supply of 1300 different parts and millions of dollars in past-due receivables
- Representation of a Tier One distressed supplier. Successfully negotiated agreements with its customers for price increases and other accommodations to ensure our client’s continued operation. Negotiated the going-concern sale of the company for shareholders to receive distributions on their equity positions
- Representation of a large hospital in formulating sale strategy and closing sale
- Representation of a national lender in the bankruptcy and sale of a hospital that was part of a multi-hospital corporation
- Negotiated international working agreements between U.S. and Mexican suppliers in distressed environment until work could be resourced
- Representation of Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Tier One plastics supplier, actions against beneficiaries of insider payments and against insiders, including litigation of preferential/fraudulent transfer actions
